This Week at Nana's

WEATHER UPDATE:
Blue Skies with wind in Albuquerque, New Mexico

I am not enjoying the outside weather because of the cold and the wind. Its currently 51 degrees outside but with the wind it feels like 32 degrees. Brrrrrrrrr.  Everyone that Ive seen this week has allergies. Im sure that the culprits are pollen, dust and wind. Im really glad we do not have snow to go along with the wind. I feel bad for people who live in a snow state. :(

The wind is getting to me. Ugggh. :(

OUTDOORS UPDATE:
My good neighbor gave me a brand new pair of garden gloves. I am excited for Spring to come. I have started sprouting seeds in the house for the garden! I am using saved seeds from last years veggie garden. The seeds are already sprouting up in their cups. I am sprouting the usual suspects, many different types of squash (including pumpkin), cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, green and red peppers, chile, and eggplant. I will sow spinach, beans, and corn directly into the soil after March has its last frost. I would love to grow potatoes this year. I'm currently researching the "How To Do" on that process.

Last year, the garden was attacked by ants. I am ready for them this time and plan to combat them with God, cornmeal, vinegar, cinnamon and whatever else I can find that is organic. Did I mention the neighbors giant mulberry tree that looms overs my garden area? Each year when that tree blooms berries, I am out there in the early morning hours, scooping up the berries off the ground. I wish I could put a big tarp up to catch those berries. No wonder the ants love the garden. They are no dummies.

Once again, the house is full of little cups of dirt and seeds.
I have a a huge supply of wildflower seeds and I have started the seed sprouting for the flowers. I want to put as many flowers as I can in the front yard. The lawn dissipated due to over mowing and sun damage. So....I have to fill it all in with greens and flowers. I have flowers that grow in the shade and plan to put flowers under the big tree in the front yard. That's my plan. I hope it works.

PET UPDATE:

Skinny Ding Dongs has been catnapped by the neighbors and they still call him Pedro. He is a traitor. LOL.  Now, he lives with two Chihuahuas. I guess they have better cat food because when he visits me he turns his nose up to a bowl of Purina cat food. The other day he was in the middle of the street. I had to chase him out of the street. The newest stray cat, Mean Missy has made herself comfy at the house. She has her own little chair and mostly she comes into the house to sleep under my bed.

I call her Mean Missy because she does not like any other cats and she fights with Skinny Ding Dongs, AKA Pedro. May I mention, she loves her Purina cat chow.  Missy got a new cat scratching toy and a mouse on a string toy. Its crazy funny to see her go after the mouse on a string. Mauricio is still going strong. He loves his snacks. His current favorite is carrots and his least favorite is celery. He is an awesome guinea. Tuck the turtle is still happy as could be. I clean his tank once a week. He takes daily walks and each afternoon spends crazy time rolling his favorite rock around his tank. He is very entertaining.

Wheezy The Jail Bird

Wheezy is doing really good.  Each day, we have talk and play time. He loves to hear pretty talk. I  tell him ,"I love you  and your so handsome". Now he looks forward to me bragging on him. He sure loves the attention.  I think soon he will perch in my hand. He lets me put my finger next to him. That's pretty good for him since he is shy.

Mr. Tubbs and  Goldie and Mr. Poopers are doing great. They sure get along really well. Goldie chases after Mr. Tubbs all the time.  Mr. Poopers just hangs out and stays  out of the way when  Tubbs and Goldie start their shenanigans. Sometimes they splash water everywhere.

I found someone who has had a pacu fish that looks just like Mr. Tubbs.  This man's Pacu fish came from Walmart  and Mr. Tubbs was adopted from the Walmart store. Tubbs was about 2 inches long when he came home to live in the big tank.

What Cats Do When Your Away

Whats Cooking?

Nana has been practicing making cup cakes and cakes. I have discovered that I can add a single packet of unsweetened Kool Aid to my favorite yellow cake recipe and make some awesome cake flavors. Ive made wild berry, strawberry, lemon etc. (I would not drink Kool Aid but I would use it to flavor a cake. I drink Odwalla Juice, not Kool Aid). I do not recommend using the Kool Aid to flavor the frosting as it is very tart. You could sprinkle a tiny bit to flavor as you mix the frosting but I would not use a whole packet. I have shared the cakes with many friends.

Chillin with Jello

Now for something more healthy for all of us that like treats but have to watch the intake. Manjula knows jello. :)

This is my favorite jello mold. Because its fun. You can find these easy to un-mold jello molds on Ebay or on the Tupperware site. Try it. Your friends will enjoy it too. :)

Doesn't this fruity jello look fun and berry-delicious?

Todd's Kitchen
I still love Todd's videos.
The newest HOW TO thing I have learned on the old youtube site is how to make tofu.
Here is the link because this guy (Todd) has a lot of cool recipe vids. Check them out. I made the marshmallows and they are really good.
